I just got through looking at this. usmu posted a link in his lj. It didn't depress me too much. I vaguely remember when the accident happened. The girl's kind of cute.

My brother sent me this. It is the journal of a lady who frequently takes rides through what used to be Chernobyl. Apparently it's safe enough now.
There are some photos here that are amazing (the photo of the abandoned boats in the water) and some that are just down right depressing (the playground got to me the most). I just wanted to share with everyone.

Your brother visits Cruel Site of the Day?? They mentioned it there
Yeah, she's kinda cute, her bike is nice too.
It just shows how some people can be terrified of things they don't understand. Of course, she mentions other who are still there who should be terrified!
Please compare Three Mile Island with Chernoble, esp media coverage and public reaction.
I thought she must be a really strong woman to ride in there and tell the story with such candour and even humour. Her commentary really brings out the power of the photos without overwhelming the images.
wow. that really is amazing. jade is right, she really tells a good story so to speak. i wonder if visitors are allowed.
I don't think my brother visits that site. He says that a friend of his passed it on to him, but that's probably where it all started.
I was really blown away. In all honesty, I had completely forgotten about Chernobyl, and it was interesting to realize just what a catastrophe that was. Chalk it up to the ignorant American in me I guess.

I don't know if they'd allow tourists. Her father was working there when the accident happened. He sent his family away, she's gone back and set up the photo-journal. She may have a special pass.Originally posted by Derico:

Fuckin freaky is what it is. Looking at the pics and reading it I thought I was in a bad sci-fi movie.....but then I remembered this was real. thats when it got freaky.
Well she sure has courage! Based on her knowledge of radiation, she knows what to do and what not to do. Still, it takes guts to actually go there!
And it is facinating to read her observations and comments. Can anyone in the USA or Canada think of the last time they passed through a "roadside checkpoint"? She casually mentions them, they're so commonplace to her. I can remember, about 10 years ago the RCMP had one up on our perimiter highway looking for 2 bankrobbers Other than that... never!
Well cats I passed through a checkpoint on U.S. soil about a month ago ....but I don't think it counts due to the fact it was on a Air Force Base.
